Marc-Antoine Cardin fait le saut en Formule 1600

Après une fin de saison écourtée par un accident de karting à Mont-Tremblant en juillet 2011, le jeune pilote Sorelois, Marc-Antoine Cardin a décidé d’effectuer un sérieux changement de cap à sa carrière de pilote. Pour la saison prochaine, on pourra voir Marc-Antoine au volant d’une monoplace et il arborera les couleurs de l’équipe familiale qui se lance dans une nouvelle aventure. En effet, Cardin Motorsport inc. fera son entrée dans cette série et prendra cette année pour se familiariser avec tous les rouages de cette nouvelle catégorie.
Avec une sérieuse blessure au bras, Marc-Antoine a dû rester inactif le reste de la saison 2011, manquant ainsi plusieurs courses. Il était vraiment déçu de ne pouvoir participer au Championnat Canadien et par le fait même, manquer les qualifications pour le championnat mondial qui se déroulait à Dubaï en novembre dernier. Après plus de 8 ans de karting, Marc-Antoine avait atteint plusieurs de ses objectifs et le besoin d’un nouveau défi se faisait sentir. Il a à son actif, plusieurs titres de Champion dans différentes catégories et le jeune pilote est satisfait des exploits accomplis.
La prochaine saison devrait débuter en avril si la température le permet. Marc-Antoine devrait faire les premiers essais de sa nouvelle voiture à Sanair et espère un maximum de pratiques avant le début des courses. Il se doit de bien comprendre le comportement de la voiture afin de faire les bons réglages pour ce genre de voiture. A 15 ans, Marc-Antoine pilotera une Formule 1600, Van Diemen 1997. C’est une voiture de type monoplace avec un moteur Ford de 4 cylindres, 115 HP pouvant atteindre 240 km/h. Les pneus utilisés seront de marque Toyo avec rainures pour toutes les conditions météo. Les courses de la série Formula Tour 1600 se dérouleront sur les circuits routiers du Québec et de l’Ontario. Les circuits Gilles Villeneuve, Trois-Rivières et ICAR devraient être visités par le jeune pilote. Par contre, tous les détails des courses vous seront donnés sur le site de Marc-Antoine lorsque le calendrier sera définitif.
Marc-Antoine se mesurera à des pilotes expérimentés et il espère bien en tirer profit. Il est bien évident qu’il aura besoin de partenaires financiers pour performer dans cette grande aventure. Toute l’équipe de Marc-Antoine tient à remercier tous ceux qui l’ont aidé de près ou de loin dans sa carrière en Karting.
Rétrospective de son palmarès.
Marc-Antoine a déjà une carrière bien remplie. En 2005, il fut nommé recrue de l’année et Vice Champion dans la catégorie « Cadet ». En 2006, il s’approprie le titre de Champion dans la catégorie Cadet. En 2007, il a terminé Champion à la Coupe de Montréal et Vice Champion des Coupes du Québec et VEGA. En 2008, on lui décerne les titres de Vice Champion au Championnat Canadien et de la Coupe VEGA dans la catégorie Mini Max. En 2009, il est le Champion de la Coupe VEGA et le Vice Champion du Québec en Mini Max. En 2010, il termine la saison avec le titre de Vice Champion de la Coupe VEGA et il est gagnant du Ferrari Scholarship Program. En 2011, saison écourtée par l’accident en Rotax Junior, il termine quand même 4e sur 33 pilotes à la Coupe du Québec et 6e sur 47 au Championnat Rotax de l’Est du Canada.

Marc-Antoine Cardin takes the plunge in “Formula 1600”
Car racing
After a season that has been stopped by a kart racing accident in Mont-Tremblant in July 2011, the young racing driver from Sorel, Marc-Antoine Cardin, has decided to make a real shift in his career. For the next season, we will be able to watch Marc-Antoine driving a one-seater car where he will wear his family team colors and start a new adventure with his team. Indeed, Cardin Motorsport Inc. will be a newcomer in this division and will take this year to get familiar with all the inner workings of this new category.
Because of a serious arm injury, Marc-Antoine had to stay out of the competition for the rest of 2011 season, therefore missing many races. He was really disappointed for not being able to participate to the Canadian Championship and thereby miss the qualifications for the worldwide championship held in Dubaï last November. After more than 8 years in kart racing, Marc-Antoine has reached many of his goals and need to take up new challenges. The young pilot has the Champion title in various categories and he is very satisfied of his career achievement.
The next season should start in April if the temperature allows it. Marc-Antoine should realize the first tests of his new car at Sanair and hopes to practice as much as possible before the beginning of the races. He must understand all the doings of his car so that he can execute the right adjustments for this kind of car. At 15 year old, Marc-Antoine will drive a Formula 1600, Van Diemen 1997. This is a one‑seater type of car with a 4 cynlinders’ Ford motor and 115 HP which can reach 240 km/h. He will use Toyo tires which are made of grooves for all kinds of temperature conditions. The races of the Formula Tour 1600 division will be held on the Quebec and Ontario’s race circuits. The Gilles Villeneuve, Trois-Rivières and ICAR’s race circuits should be attended by the young driver. All the details of the races will be available on Marc-Antoine’s website when his season schedule will be definitive.
Marc-Antoine will measure himself with experienced drivers and hopes to learn from it. Obviously, Marc-Antoine will need partners’ financial support to be able to perform in this great adventure.

Marc-Antoine has already a well-filled career. In 2005, he has been named Recrute of the Year and Vice Champion in the Cadet category. In 2006, he obtained the title of Champion in Cadet Category. In 2007, he ended the season as Montreal Cup Champion and Quebec Cup and Vega Cup’s Vice Champion. In 2008, he has been awarded with the title of Vice Champion at the Canadian Championship and at VEGA Cup in the Mini Max category. In 2009, he was the Champion of VEGA Cup and the Quebec Vice Champion in Mini Max. In 2010, he finishes the season with the title of Vice Champion of VEGA Cup and is a winner of the Ferrari Scholarship Program. In 2011, the season has been cut short by an accident in Junior Rota and he finishes 4th amongst 33 drivers at the Quebec Cup and 6th amongst 47 drivers at the Rotax East of Canada Championship.
